Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three colour plates. Collated complete. A narrative poem written in a mixture of Scots and English, originally published in 1791. The poem tells the tale of Tam, a farmer who often gets drunk with his friends in the town of Ayr, without a thought for his wife who waits at home for him. One night, he rides home on his horse Meg and sees the local haunted church lit up with witches and warlocks dancing while the Devil plays the bagpipes. Written by Robert Burns, a Scottish poet and lyricist widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, whose work is celebrated worldwide. Illustrated by Monro Scott Orr, a British painter, etcher and illustrator.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding with gilt, Externally, smart with minor rubbing and fading to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with age toning to the endpapers.
