First Edition, Illustrated

Preceding the work in book form, this clothbound work is from the January - October issues of 'The Strand Magazine' from 1906. Comprising of ten parts from 'The Strand Magazine'. Illustrated by Claude Allen Shepperson. When the work was published in book form illustrations were by H R Millar. This series of short stories are set during different periods of English history. They are regarded as both historical fantasy and contemporary fantasy. The tales are narrated to two children by people magically plucked out of history by the elf Puck, or they are told by Puck himself.

Condition

Bound in a full cloth binding. Externally, bumped tot the head and tail of spine. Light rubbing to the spine and joints. Spine has faded. Front hinge is strained but firm. Prior owner's notations in pencil to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Scattered spots to endpapers and the odd spots to pages.
