A 1905 edition, bound in very scarce red pictorial boards, which feature a striking gilt motif, and black text, and additional decoration by a gilt top edge.

Includes 13 immersive monochrome plate illustrations, rendered by Italian artist brothers Aleardo and Amedeo John Engel-Terzi.
Collated, complete.

Aleardo Engel-Terzi is regarded as having greatly influenced the Art Nouveau movement through the medium of posters. Much of his work was lost in the 1960s.

Amedeo John (here credited as 'A. J. Engel-Terzi'), who was also and entomologist, produced a renowned collection of zoological work, specialising in intricate drawings of a variety of Diptera - flies.

Condition

Bound in original red pictorial boards. Externally, smart. Fading to spine. Slight bumping to head and tail. Small loss to cloth to front board edge. Bookplate of a Francis E. B. Witts to front paste down. Slight spotting and age toning to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to text block edges. Pages generally bright and clean. Occasional spotting throughout. Pages unevenly cut to bottom edge.
