Description

First Edition, Folding Maps, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

In the publisher's original paper wraps with quarter cloth backstrip.

This copy is a first edition.

With a fold-out map frontispiece to illustrate the Geography of the Peninsula and the south of France and the general movements of the campaign. One full-page illustration of the plan and geography at the Battle of Corunna. Collated, complete.

Hutchinson’s Aldershot lecture series, published by military bookseller Hugh Rees Ltd. in London, sought to distil campaign “lessons learned” for Staff College students.

Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Doveton Hutchinson, CSI (1847-1924) was Director of Staff Duties at the War Office and a prolific lecturer. His earlier book on The Campaign in Tirah, 1897-98 was standard pre-First-World-War reading for officers.
