Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
One of two-hundred and fifty copies printed on hand-made paper of this opera in three acts by John Gay. in 'The King's Library' series edited by Professor Gollancz, De La More Press Quartos. With an additional illustrated title page uniform to the series and engraving to title page after Hogarth.
Originally published in 1728, this is one of the watershed plays in Augustan drama, example of the satirical ballad opera that is popular to this day. It satirises Italian opera.

Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over paper covered boards. Externally sound with shelf wear, spine and boards bumped to extremities, general soiling to covers. John Anthony Piper's bookplate to front pastedown, dated 1951. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting scattered to the occasional leaf, although generally pages appear bright and clean.
