Second impression. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and eighty-five black-and-white images across sixty-seven plates. With a section of the frontispiece removed to the top of the page, though the image is not disturbed. A fascinating work on gardens and gardening in Peking, China, as well as life there. With chapters on an Imperial funeral, Pekingese dogs, the western hills, seaside resorts, hot springs, grass lands, palace and temple gardens, and much more. Written by Alicia Little or Mrs Archibald Little, a British writer and a campaigner for women's rights and later against foot binding in China.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities resulting in minor fraying to the tips of the boards. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Further spotting and age toning to the first and last few pages. Front endpapers have been removed with the frontispiece cut to the top of the page, the picture is not damaged.
