An interesting report exploring public elementary schools as they were at the beginning of the twentieth century, in particular looking at their medical system and the food provided to the children.

Including a total of twelve appendices across the two volumes, such as 'Summary of Return as to Medical Inspection', 'Memoranda Giving Particulars of the Systems of Medical Inspection Established in Certain Areas', and 'Resolution Passed by the Local Education Authorities of Bradford and Manchester in Reference to the Provision of Meals for Children by the Poor Law Guardians'.

Volume II contains a list of witnesses, and minutes of evidence.

Institutional label of the University of London Library Depository to the front paste down, presented to the library by Lady Shirley Murphy in 1929.

Condition

Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine is faded. Spine labels ae rubbed. Institutional labels to the front paste down, and a stamp to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Repairs to the original wraps. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the original wraps. The occasional institutional stamp and blind stamp. Small tears to the front wrap of Volume I.
