The first edition of the work.

In half red calf, with gilt to top edge, and decorative end papers. 

A collection of poetry by Alfred Tennyson. He was an English poet, and was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom during much of Queen Victoria's reign. In his day he was said to be- with Queen Victoria and Prime Minister William Gladstone- one of the three most famous living persons, a reputation no other poet writing in English has ever had.

His poems are accompanied in this volume by the illustrations of Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale, a British artist and late exponent of Pre-Raphaelitism.

Condition

In half red calf. Externally, smart. Light shelf wear to extremities. Spotting to boards with the odd mark. Slight fading to head of front board. Ink inscription to rear of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
