Illustrated with twenty-eight plates and a colour frontispiece.  

Born in Calcutta in 1855, the author of this work, Kathleen Blechynden, combines personal experience with meticulous research to present an in-depth history of her home city. Blechynden aims to depict the daily lives of those living in this city, commencing her history from 1690 up until more recent times.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the extremities and a little rubbing to joints. Marks and small worm holes to the cloth. Lacking front free endpaper. Front hinge is strained, with cords visible. Internally, binding is tender in places, with a few pages disbound but present, including the contents page and a plate to page 200. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the odd mark. Ink inscription to the verso of the frontispiece. Closed tear to the folding plate.
