First edition, first impression. Illustrated with sixty illustrations, including a frontispiece and many plates. Collated complete. A collection of sketches describing each individual species of bird regularly nesting in the British Isles, with a list of summer migrants and details of where these birds spend the winter months. With a total of one hundred and seventy-seven species included. Written by William Percival Westell, a British schoolmaster, author, and broadcaster known for his works on natural history. With an introduction from Sir Herbert Eustace Maxwell, a Scottish novelist, essayist, artist, antiquarian, horticulturalist, and prominent salmon angler. Illustrated by Arthur Martin, a British artist and photographer.
Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges. Small splits in the cloth at the head of the spine and front joint. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
