A biographical study of Mandell Creighton, a British historian, Anglican priest and bishop. With examples of his personal correspondence. The son of a successful cabinet-maker in north-west England, Creighton studied at the University of Oxford, and was engaged as the founding editor of The English Historical Review, the first English-language academic journal in its field. Favoured by the Prince of Wales, Creighton was later appointed Bishop of London in 1897 until his death in 1901. Written by his wife, Louise Hume Creighton, a British author of books on historical and sociopolitical topics. She is best known as an activist for higher education of women at Oxford and their greater participation in society, including women's suffrage, and in the leadership of the Church of England. Bound by The Times Book Club.
Condition
Bound in full morocco. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spines. Library ink markings to the tail of the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Library bookplate to the front pastedown with a library ink stamp to the reverse of the title page. Minor age toning to the endpapers.
