Written by Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer best known for works such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and A Child's Garden of Verses. This set contains: Across the Plains, 1905. A travel book, being the middle section of Stevenson's three-part travel memoir which began with The Amateur Emigrant and ended with The Silverado Squatters. Containing twelve chapters, each a story or essay unto itself. Virginibus Puerisque and Other Papers, 1907. A collection of short stories and essays, including: An Apology for Idlers, El Dorado, Child's Play, Walking Tours, and A Plea for Gas Lamps, amongst others. Memories and Portraits, 1909. A collection of essays, including: The Foreigner at Home, Some College Memories, Old Morality, A College Magazine, and An Old Scotch Gardener, amongst others. In the South Seas, 1916. A collection of Stevenson's articles and essays on his travels in the Pacific, being an account of experiences and observations in the Marquesas, Paumotus, and Gilbert Islands in the course of two cruises on the yacht Casco and the schooner Equator. An Inland Voyage, 1917. A travelogue of a canoeing trip through France and Belgium in 1876. It is Stevenson's earliest book and a pioneering work of outdoor literature.
Condition
In the original full green cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spines. The odd small split in the cloth to the head and tail of the spines. An ink mark to the front board of volume five. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. The odd ink underline to volume two. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of volume two with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of volume four.
