The second edition of this very scarce work. 

In the publisher's original cloth binding. With a portrait frontispiece. 

This work illustrates a selection of Richard Wagner's theories and approaches to operatic melody, dramatic poetry and the reform of opera. Together with a brief biographical history of the composer and a list of his works. 

Written by pianist and music critic, Edward Dannreuther. He trained as a musician at the Leipzig Conservatoire, where he was a pupil of Ignaz Moscheles. 

With four leaves of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. A couple minor marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with varying levels of scattered spotting throughout.
