A scarce catalogue depicting the Peacock Room, a striking work of interior decorative art created by James McNeill Whistler and Thomas Jeckyll. Originally designed to serve as the dining room in Frederick Richards Leyland's townhouse, the design is now considered one of the greatest surviving Aesthetic interiors and best examples of the Anglo-Japanese style.
In the original wraps.
Illustrated in ten fine photogravures by Whistler, an American oil and watercolour painter. Collated, complete.
With an introduction signed C. J. H., presumably Sir Charles John Holmes, a British painter, art historian and museum director.
Condition
In the original wraps. Externally, front and rear covers are largely split down the joints. With fading and general edge wear to the wraps. Internally, binding is weak, with all but two leaves detached but present. With scattered spots throughout, heaviest to the first and last pages. Contemporary ownership inscription to the title page.
