Volume VI from 'Romances and Narratives by Daniel Defoe', edited by George A. Atkin (third edition). 

In the original green cloth binding, with decorative gilt to the spine. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates by J. B. Yeats. Collated, complete. 

This novel, originally published in 1720, describes the life of the Englishman named Singleton, who is stolen as a child and raised by Gypsies before eventually making his way to sea. 

The book was written following the success of Defoe's best known work, 'Robinson Crusoe', which is claimed to be second only to the Bible in its number of translations.  

From the library of Nicolas McDowall, who founded the Old Stile Press, a private press in Herefordshire, UK. He dedicated his life to creating beautiful books, working with dozens of artists and writers such as John Elqyn, Peter Reddick, Ted Hughes and Kevin Crossley-Holland.

Condition

In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart, with fading to the spine and light bumping to the extremities. Anonymous bookplate with 'Laudatur et Alget' to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with light scattered spotting to the endpapers. Bookplate of one Nicolas McDowall to the front free endpaper.
