This is a detailed official history of the Yeomen of the Guard, the oldest continuous military bodyguard in the world, tracing their service from the founding by Henry VII after Bosworth Field through to the reign of Edward VII.
Written by Reginald Hennell (1844–1925), a Colonel in the Indian Army and Lieutenant of H.M. Body-Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard from 1901 to 1925. He also saw active service in the Abyssinian Expedition (1867–68), the Afghan War (1879–80), and the Burma Campaign (1886–87).
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Bookplate from the "United Service Club" to front paste down. Hinges cracked, with binding materials partially exposed, slightly loose but holding. Front joint cracked, with tearing and fraying to cloth at head of spine. The odd small closed tear to extremities of spine with fraying to cloth. Slight fading to extremities and spine. Slight rubbing and boards and spine. The odd slight handling mark and scratch to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges strained in places, but firm. Pages generally bright and clean with typical age toning to fore edge with one or two handling marks.
