What Our Customers Say...

Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

The Astolat Press. A collection of the sonnets of William Shakespeare, an English playwright, poet and actor widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. The one hundred and fifty-four sonnets were the last of Shakespeare's non-dramatic works to be printed, seemingly composed in two contrasting series: one about uncontrollable lust for a married woman of dark complexion (the "dark lady"), and one about conflicted love for a fair young man (the "fair youth"). It remains unclear if these figures represent real individuals.

Condition

In the original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd mark to the boards. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1909.
