Illustrated with fourteen maps (including a folding frontispiece) forty-nine plans (five of which are folding), a folding panorama of Rome, a folding view of the Forum Romanum, and the Arms of the Popes since 1417. Collated, complete.
These 'Baedeker' handbooks, from the company of German publisher Karl Baedeker, set the standard for authoritative guidebooks for tourists. They contain, among other things, maps and information regarding routes, travel facilities, noteworthy sights, attractions and museums, written by specialists.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with discolouration to the cloth, most notably to the spine. With minor shelf wear. Internally, frontispiece is detached but present, otherwise firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with slight age toning to the front and rear pages and the odd spot.
