What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
A complete four volume set of this richly illustrated account of the history of English furniture, by Percy Macquoid.
Each volume is dedicated to a specific wood, exploring The Age of Oak (1904), The Age of Walnut (1905), The Age of Mahogany (1906) and The Age of Satinwood (1908).
This work has been divided into four periods, dating from 1500-1660, comprising furniture from the Renaissance or The Age of Oak, the second from 1660 to 1720 or The Age of Walnut where change was varied by the Restoration and through Dutch influences. The third period introduces ideas from France from 1720 to 1770, or The Age of Mahogany, and the last period, from 1770 to 1820, comprised The Age of Satinwood or The Composite Age.
With plates in colour by Shirley Slocombe and numerous illustrations selected and arranged by the author.
With fifteen colour plates to each volume, with plate number two from The Age of Oak loose and torn but present.
