The first edition of this scarce work.

A turn of the century children's tale, following the fate of a doll owned by a young girl named Erica.

Illustrated throughout to every page.

In the preface, the author presents his idea of what he believes the 'real live black men [who] live in Africa', are like. 

Written and illustrated by F. Claude Kempson, who penned such works as 'The Church In Modern England' and ' The Misadventures of a Hack Cruiser'.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth backed, pictorial paper covered boards. Boards age toned to perimeters, with damp staining and paper residue to head of rear board. Internally, text block detached but present. Closed tears to tail of each leaf, not affecting text. Light tide marks to head of final ten leaves, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
