Bound in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with blue-grey paper covered boards.
A limited edition, being copy number twelve of two hundred and ninety copies on hand-made paper and ten on vellum, for sale in England.
First printed in 1649, Eikon Basilike appeared ten days after Charles I’s execution, presenting him as a Christ-like figure wronged by his people. It ran through more than 35 editions in its first year and became a cornerstone of Royalist and Anglican martyr literature.
Officially ascribed to Charles I, though later some attributed it to John Gauden, a clergyman and Royalist supporter.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. Slight discolouration to perimeters of boards and spine. The odd minor handling mark to boards. Very slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Very slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge. Very slight cockling to fore edge.
