Illustrated with a frontispiece and many vignettes. 

A series of useful guides and descriptions of alpine flowers, including the proposal of planting species of alpine in small rock gardens, a practise which quickly caught on, becoming commonplace in many English gardens. 

Robinson offered many other major influences within English gardening, with ideas about wild gardening spurring the movement that led to the popularising of the English cottage garden. 

Condition

In the original cloth binding, with illustrative gilt to the front board. Externally, smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. A few white marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the occasional spots, heaviest to the endpapers. Blind stamp to the front free endpaper.
