The first edition of this work.

An anthology of tales following Brigadier Gerard on a series of adventures.

The tales are set in the action of the Napoleonic works, this volume including tales set between 1805 and 1821. Gerard is a Hussar officer in the French Army, telling these tales when he is an old man.

This volume includes eight tales, including 'How Brigadier Gerard Lost His Ear', 'How The Brigadier Slew the Fox', 'How the Brigadier Bore Himself at Waterloo', and more.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and fifteen plates.

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the spine. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional scattered spot.
