Three volumes. Written by Joseph Rudyard Kipling, an English journalist, novelist, poet, and short-story writer best known for The Jungle Book, the Just So Stories, and Kim. This set includes: The Five Nations, 1903. First edition. A collection of poetry focused on the five nations, which were suggested to be "five free nations of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and 'the islands of the sea'." The poems are divided into two with the first section covering a wide range of subjects and the second titled "Service Songs", relating to the common experiences of British soldiers around the turn of the century. Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses, 1913. Thirty-fourth edition. A collection of poems and songs with a common theme of the late-Victorian British Army, mostly written in a vernacular dialect. The series contains some of Kipling's best-known works, including the poems "Gunga Din", "Tommy", and "Mandalay". The Seven Seas, 1913. Twenty-third edition. A collection of verses on the theme of sailing and the sea, with titles including "Hymn Before Action", "In the Neolithic Age", "The Lost Legion", "The Mary Gloster", and "McAndrew's Hymn". Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light spotting to the foredge and the first and last few pages. Further spotting to Barrack-Room Ballads. Light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of Barrack-Room Ballads and The Seven Seas.
