First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous in-text images including a double-page map. A charming study of industry in Whitstable, a town on the north coast of Kent, England, with specific reference to the fishermen whose lives are spent in cultivating the oyster. Including chapters on the beach and physical features of the area, the native oyster, culling oysters, the stores and packing rooms, trade, and more. Written by Allan Ovenden Collard, an English historian. With a booklet entitled "Natives" of the West Country, a small guide to oyster fishing with information on the processes involved, as well as a small collection of recipes and directions on opening oysters.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the cloth. The odd small mark with damp marks to the board edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark.
