1902 Just So Stories for Little Children
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding
A first edition copy, of the October 1902 reprint, in excellent condition, and in its original red pictorial boards.
Beautifully illustrated, including 22 unnumbered monochrome plates, and many vignette illustrations crafted by the author.
'Just So Stories' is considered a much loved, and influential work, even featuring on UK postage stamps in 2002, in honour of the anniversary of its publication.
Within, Kipling concocts his own breed of mythology, designed for the entertainment of his young daughter, Josephine - or, "Effie" - who died suddenly, three years prior to publication, and is believed to be the 'O Best Beloved' addressed in the book.
Kipling has been recognised for his passion towards natural history, which, along with his time in India, frequently influenced his writings.
Also includes a pamphlet advertising 'Wild Life On the Wing' by M. D. Haviland slotted into rear endpapers.
