A pleasing set of ornithological works from Seton Gordon, Oliver G. Pike and H. Eliot Howard. 

The first editions of these works. Comprising four volumes in total. 

In the original cloth bindings.

'Hillside, Rock and Dale: Bird Life Pictured with Pen and Camera' by Oliver G. Pike (1902). Frontispiece and many in-text photographs. With three leaves of advertisements to the rear. 

'Farther Afield in Birdland' by Oliver G. Pike (1911) - Undated, dated from the British Library. Tipped-in frontispiece, eleven further tipped-in plates and thirty-six normal plates. Two leaves of advertisements to the rear. 

Pike was a British naturalist, wildlife photographer, author and early nature documentary pioneer, specialising in the study of bird life.

'Territory in Bird Life' by H. Eliot Howard (1920) - With a frontispiece and ten plates. With one leaf of advertisements to the rear. Howard was an English amateur ornithologist, noted for being one of the first to describe territoriality behaviours in birds in a detailed matter. This followed his first work, British Warblers

'In the Highlands' by Seton Gordon (1931) - With a frontispiece and eleven double-sided plates. Gordon was a world-famous naturalist, photographer and folklorist noted for his descriptions of Scottish wildlife and sceneries. He is believed to have been the first to photograph both the snow bunting and the whooper swan at nests in Scotland.

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original cloth bindings. Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Slight fading to 'Territory' spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with offsetting to the endpapers and scattered spots throughout all, but 'Hillside', which only has light spotting to the endpapers and the odd handling mark.
