Illustrated with a frontispiece and sixteen plates. Collated, lacking one plate, 'we dug a hole to bury the fox in'.
E. Nesbit follows the Bastable children to the Red House in Blackheath, where they try to turn their garden into a jungle and act out scenes from The Jungle Book, causing mayhem. As punishment, they are sent to spend the summer at Moat House in the countryside.
Edith Nesbit was one of the most popular children's authors during the Edwardian era, and is still perhaps best known for 1906 novel 'The Railway Children'.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Light shelf wear to back strip tail, with bump to back strip head. Minor hole in cloth to rear joint centre. Back strip lightly age toned. Hinges strained, and a touch tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. One plate detached and loosely inserted. Lacking one plate. Pages clean and bright.
