This work is compiled of letters and other materials from Gilbert White to fellow naturalists Thomas Pennant and Daines Barrington.
The bulk of the book, The Natural History, accounts White's observations of animals and plants, such as summer birds, thunderstorms and a recurring old tortoise.
In the second section, The Antiquities, none of the letters were actually posted, but rather written specifically for the book. In it, White discusses Selborne in various era, such as during Saxon times.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Small mark to the author's name to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with a few scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few leaves. Offsetting to the endpapers.
