A posthumously published work from theologian, Anglican cleric, and classical translator Benjamin Jowett, edited by Anglican priest William Fremantle.
The volume includes eighteen sermons, on subjects including 'Darwinism and Faith in God', 'The Subjection of the Son', 'The Prophetic Subject', and 'Immortality'. These sermons were given between 1869 and 1884.
In a half morocco signed binding from Zaehnsdorf.
With former owner's ink inscription to tail of final contents leaf.
With the bookplates of Arnold Page and Cecil Grantham Page to the front pastedown.
A vanishingly scarce work from the prominent theologian.
Condition
In a half morocco signed binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, excellent. Just a touch of fading to back strips, with a touch of rubbing to centre of rear board. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Former owner's inscriptions to final contents leaf.
