First edition. Scarce work. Illustrated throughout with costume and portraits of great American singers, including twenty-nine full-page images. A charming collection of short biographies of some of the most famous contemporary opera singers, including: Madame Nordica, Jean and Edouard de Reszke, Madame Melba, Madame Schumann-Heink, and Emma Eames, amongst others. Written by Gustav Kobbe, an American music critic and author, best known for his guide to the operas The Complete Opera Book.

Condition

Bound in quarter calf with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with light loss to the extremities. The odd mark to the boards. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
