What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Leather Binding
A delightful three volume study of London life at the turn of the century, edited by English journalist, poet, dramatist and novelist George Robert Sims. A prolific journalist and writer, Sims frequently wrote on topics of social reform, with an emphasis on the plight of the poor in London's slums.
In his prologue, Sims explains that 'in these pages there is to be enacted for us a great human drama. In them we are to find a breathing, pulsing panorama of Living London'.
With articles including 'Musical London' by Gilbert Burgess, 'Midnight London' by Beckles Willson, 'In the London Docks' by R. Austin Freeman, and 'Royalty in London' by Mrs. Belloc-Lowndes.
With a frontispiece and general title page to volume I. Volumes II and III retain frontispieces but lack title pages. They are otherwise complete.
With over 400 vignette photographs and illustration to each volume, bringing the London of the period to life.

In quarter morocco bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, lovely, with light rubbing to board perimeters. Front hinge of volume I strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. Lacking title pages to volume II and III.
