What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Signed Binding
First edition. Complete in seven volumes.
Volume I was published under a different title ('Pilgrimages in Cheshire & Shropshire) and is suggested by the author in Vol II to be viewed as a "preface to a wider contribution of the work".
Uniformly bound in signed half calf by Delrue, with cloth boards.
This charming British travelogue contains the author's excursions to many old homes, halls, abbeys, castles and churches. With descriptions of Dutton Hall, Vale Royal, Goodrich Castle, Stonehenge, Brockhampton Old Hall and much more.
Each volume is copiously illustrated with vignettes and full-page monochrome photographic images throughout.
Fletcher Moss was the son of prosperous owners of a corn trading company, and had a keen interest in natural history, especially birds, nature and wildlife, about which he published many books. He donated what is now known as the Fletcher Moss Gardens to the city of Manchester in 1915.
All but the seventh volume were published at his home, then known as the Old Parsonage.
