A very scarce limited edition, limited to only one hundred and fifty copies, of which this is numbered one hundred and twelve.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and a facsimile letter.

A concise work looking at John Greenleaf Whittier's career as a politician, exemplified through his letters written to fellow abolitionist Elizur Wright. 

Whittier was an abolitionist, and is considered to be one of the fireside poets. He is better remembered today for his anti-slavery writings.

Condition

In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Institutional ink to the front board. A few light marks to the boards. Small tear to the head of the front joint. Front hinge is starting but firm. Institutional label to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the verso of the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean. Tape repair to the frontispiece. A few pencil annotations to the margins.
