An uncommon first edition thus, being a facsimile reproduction of eight issues of a weekly newspaper made by British soldiers in the Second Boer War.
The issues are dated November 1899 to January 1900.
With illustrations throughout from Earl Robert, and with much of the text supplied by one George Walter Lines.
The siege of Ladysmith was a protracted engagement in the Second Boer War, taking place between 2 November 1899 and 28 February 1900 at Ladysmith, Natal.
This fascinating work details the events from the perspective of ordinary British soldiers.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth backed paper wraps. Significant loss to tail of front wrap, with further loss to front wrap head. Loss of paper to rear wrap head and tail. Back strip detaching to tail of rear wrap, with light fraying to back strip head. Dedication leaf tenderly held to the tail only. Significant handling marks to dedication leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd light handling mark to page perimeters.
