Illustrated with a frontispiece, illustrated title, and seventeen plates. Collated complete. First published in 1895, this book is a collection of reminiscences of childhood intended for nostalgic adults and suitable for children readers. The contents includes 'A Holiday', 'Sawdust and Sin', and 'The Argonauts' - referring to adults from a child's eye, using Ancient Greek metaphors and imagery that was typical of the time. Written by Kenneth Grahame, a British writer best remembered for the classic of children's literature The Wind in the Willows. Illustrated by Maxfield Parrish, an American painter and illustrator whose works featured distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing to the extremities resulting in minor loss to the cloth. A damp mark to the spine with the odd mark to the boards, including a small puncture mark to the rear board. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Minor age toning to the extremities. Previous owner's book label to the front pastedown.
