Bertram Freeman-Miftord's account of his time travelling in China, with a focus on his time in Peking (which is now known as Beijing). The work provides historical insight into life in China in the nineteenth century, written as a series of letters and documenting the street scenes, politics, customs and general life. Freeman-Mitford was a British diplomat.

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally, rear joint starting at the head, with slight edge wear and bumping to the extremities, the odd minor mark to the boards, and a crease to the rear. Spotting and offsetting to the endpapers, with an owner's signature to the front. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Authors inscription to the half title.
