This copy is inscribed and signed by the author, addressed to "Sir Henry Knight. Alderman of Cripplegate Ward. with the kind regards, the Author. Feb, 1901."

This is a privately issued historical reference work compiling every known Alderman of the City of London’s Cripplegate Ward from 1276 through 1900, with biographical notes, information on the office itself, and lists of Aldermen’s Deputies and the ward’s Common Councilmen.

Includes a monochrome frontispiece, a facsimile of the earliest recorded Cripplegate aldermanic election (1446), and in-text monochrome portraits of the ward’s aldermen, each accompanied by biographical notes.

John James Baddeley (1842-1926) served as Deputy for Cripplegate Ward Without and later as Lord Mayor of London (1921-1922).

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. slight rubbing to boards resulting in slight loss to gilt text. The odd slight spot of damp staining to front board. One or two slight handling marks to boards. Spine slightly faded. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. slight offsetting to endpapers. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Signed and inscribed by the author to the half-title. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but holding firm. Pages bright and clean, with just one or two spots and handling marks to fore edge.
