A 1900 third edition copy of this very scarce work. Prefaced by the author's wife, and the illustrator of this edition.

Bound in original brown pictorial boards, this title details the time spent by Lord Henry Brougham Loch, accompanying Lord Elgin on his second trip to China.

Includes a folding map tipped in to the rear of the book, featuring a map of the 'March to Pekin, in lovely condition.

Contains a frontispiece portrait of the author, and 2 further monochrome plates of illustrations, drawn by the author's wife, Elizabeth Loch née Villiers.
Plate 2 coming away from binding, but still attached.
Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in original brown pictorial boards. Externally, in very good condition. Slight shelf wear. The odd mark to boards. Hinges starting. Bookplate of a Francis E. B. Witts to front paste down. Slight spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound, very occasional strain. Pages generally bright and clean, very infrequent spotting and marks to pages throughout. Spotting to title page. Approx. 2 pages of preface cut unevenly to the fore edge. 2nd plate coming away from binding. Map in very good condition, very slight age toning to section of reverse.
