Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this work.

This intriguing volume contains the philosophical verse of Lucretius put to the metre of Omar Khayyam's 'Rubaiyat', edited as such by William Hurrell Mallock.

Mallock here uses Edward Fitzgerald's tenuous translation of Khayyam's 'Rubaiyat', translating Lucretius' only known work, 'De Rerum Natura', into English, and in the rhyming and metrical verse of Fitzgerald's adaptation of the Persian poet's work.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, cloth is a little discoloured and marked, as is usual to see with white cloth. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Very small damp stain to the rear board. Gift inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
