First edition. Complete in one volume, with two mutually independent volumes published between 1900 and 1908 following this work. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous full-page and in-text illustrations throughout. A 'Country Life' work delving into the many beautiful gardens of Britain, most within the country homes in England. Providing a cross section of some fifty major and relatively minor, better and lesser known English country seats and their gardens at the height of their glory just before the Great War. Describing each house and garden with fine photographs to complement. Being a wonderful study into the charming gardens of the British countryside, looking at Newstead Abbey, Prior Park, Ashridge Park, Clifton Hall, and many more. Dated from the British Library.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. Small splits to the head and tail of the spine. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark.
