In the publisher's original cloth binding. 

Illustrated with six monochrome plates by Harold Copping. Collated, complete. 

This book follows a determined girl named Augusta Pembroke, who is the favourite of her teachers and fellow-pupils, and dreams of a distinguished professional career. 

She must alter the course of her life suddenly when her timid younger brother falls victim to his guardian-uncle's harshness, to which she comes to his defence. 

From Ellinor Davenport Adams, a British journalist and writer who wrote mainly girls' fiction told from the child's perspective.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Splits to the backstrip, however it remains firmly attached to the spine. Marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots, heaviest to the endpapers. Offsetting to the endpapers and a contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
