1899 Through China With a Camera
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
Second edition. Illustrated with one hundred and fourteen photographs. Collated complete. The author's own account of his travels across China over four years, with complementary photographs throughout. Thomson was one of the first photographers to travel to the Far East, documenting the people, landscapes and artefacts of eastern cultures. His travels in China were often perilous as he visited remote regions far inland where most of the people he encountered had never seen a Westerner or camera before. Additional challenges came from the weight and amount of equipment he needed to carry with him, along with potentially explosive chemicals. Written and illustrated by John Thomson, a pioneering Scottish photographer, geographer, and traveller.
