Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifteen plates, one of which is folding. Collated complete. A collection of letters on hunting, written to a friend, with reference to the kennels and the hounds in general, breeding, diseases, hare-hunting, fox-chasing, halloos, the whipper-in, the huntsman, and more. This work serves as a guide to the practice, and includes commentary on country life. Written by Sir Peter Beckford, a British writer, planter, art collector and politician who was a prominent member in the English fox hunting community. Illustrated by G. H. Jalland and others. Previously held in the library of Lewis Pugh Evans Pugh, a Welsh lawyer and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons.

Condition

In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. A small split in the cloth to the head of the spine at the joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
