With forty-seven maps (fifteen folding, including frontispiece), ten plans and seven panoramas (six folding). Collated, complete.
The Baedeker handbooks, from the company of German publisher Karl Baedeker, set the standard for authoritative guidebooks for tourists. They contain, among other things, maps and information regarding routes, travel facilities, noteworthy sights, attractions and museums, written by specialists.
The preface states this to be a constantly revised handbook due to "matters which are constantly undergoing alteration" and is organised into five sections (I. Southern Bavaria; II. Salzburg, Salzkammergut, and Hohe Tauern; III. Northern Tyrol; IV. Southern Tyrol; V. Alps of Upper and Lower Austria, Styria, Carinthia, and Carniola).
Last page incorrectly printed as 468 instead of 568.
Four of the maps have been neatly lined with pink ink to presumably show the previous owner's routes travelled in 1907. The locations of said maps are noted to the front free endpaper.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, cloth is darkened, with slight fading to the gilt. With minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with light spotting to the blank side of the frontispiece folding map. With ink stains affecting the rear pastedown and corners of the last few pages, reducing in size the further into the volume. Small contemporary ownership inscription to the title page. Four of the maps have been neatly lined with pink ink to show the previous owner's routes taken in their travels in 1907. The locations of said maps are noted to the front free endpaper.
