With a frontispiece, thirty five further photographic plates, three plans and two folding maps. Collated complete. 

An important primary source of late nineteenth century Pacific Island culture, covering geography, culture, antiquities, folklore, and island life. 

Written by Frederick William Christian was an author, lexicographer and cricketer, who studied Pacific Island languages and cultures after the death of his friend Robert Louis Stevenson. The pair met when both in Samoa.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally in excellent condition with minor shelf wear only. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting, heavier to the fore edge and the first and last few pages.
