First published in 1889, this is a smart 1899 edition of the novel.
The novel has two main plots: a social novel of the Victorian era set in the real world, and a fairy tale with nonsense elements set in the fantasy world of Fairyland.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous vignette and full page illustrations from British illustrator Harry Furniss.
With an index to the rear.
The novel saw a second volume in 1893, titled 'Sylvie and Bruno Concluded'.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Back strip age toned, with light handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Tide mark to title page perimeters, with spotting to title page and frontispiece. Pages clean and bright.
