First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, eight plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A charming guide to the roads around Yorkshire, written as part of the Highways and Byways series. These volumes were noted for their presentation of a wide variety of interesting places, notable historical events, local flora and fauna, folklore, and legends. Written by Arthur Hamilton Norway, an English author renowned for his meticulous historical writings. Illustrated by Joseph Pennell, an American draftsman, etcher, lithographer, and illustrator for books and magazines, and Hugh Thomson, an Irish illustrator best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie.

Condition

Bound in full calf. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor loss to the extremities. Fading to the spine with marks to the boards. Cracks to the joints with minor loss to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting throughout. Minor age toning to the endpapers with school bookplate and bookseller's label to the front pastedown.
