First edition. Being the journals and selected correspondence of Major George Simmons, a British Army officer who served in the Napoleonic Wars and was wounded at the Battle of Waterloo while serving with the 95th Regiment of Foot (Rifles). This collection contains his writings during the Peninsular War and the Campaign of Waterloo. For his service in the Peninsular Campaigns Simmons received the Military General Service Medal with eight clasps and the Waterloo Medal. Edited by Colonel William Willoughby Cole Verner, a British soldier, writer, ornithologist, and inventor of a type of compass.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small split in the cloth to the head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting to the first and last few pages with age toning to the endpapers. A contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown.
