What Our Customers Say...
Description
Decorative Binding, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
A lovely edition of Cape Cod by Henry David Thoreau in a complete 2 volume set, published by Houghton, Mifflin and Company. Reprinted by the Riverside Press in 1899.
In the publisher's original decorative cloth, with a colour frontispiece in each volume. Numerous in-text illustrations by Amelia Watson of Thoreau's scenic travels in both volumes. Volume 1 covers chapters 1-6, while volume 2 covers chapters 7-10.
A great American literary figure known for weaving themes of natural beauty and human nature, Thoreau's Cape Cod describes the several trips he made to the charming New England region between 1849 and 1855. Thoreau's writing is more light-hearted compared to other works, as he offers an affectionate portrait of the scenery and self-reliant people who live there.
Accompanying Thoreau's observations are beautiful water colour illustrations by Amelia Watson that originally made this two volume set a commercial and artistic success.
